These sunchokes (Helianthus tuberosus) were bred by traditional farmer, adaptation gardening teacher, and author of Landrace Gardening Joseph Lofthouse.
Lofthouse Sunroots adapted to thrive in Joseph’s high, dry, short-season valley farm with alkaline soils in Utah. They also grow great here in New Jersey in nearly opposite conditions. Chances are high that they will grow well for you, too.
As a genetically diverse population, Lofthouse Sunroot flowers are able to pollinate each other and produce true seed in addition to being propagated by tubers.
This is an OSSI-pledged variety.
