Island Gold Beach Plum (Prunus maritima) – Bare Root Seedlings

18.00$

Offsring from yellow- or gold-fruiting beach plums. 1st year seedlings, approximately 12″ – 36″.

Because these are seedlings (grown from seed), each individual is genetically distinct. Even though all these seeds came from gold fruit, it cannot be guaranteed they will produce gold fruit themselves. A range of fruit colors from yellow to orange, red, or purple is possible.

Beach Plum (Prunus maritima) grows native along the coastal Northeast from New Brunswick to Virginia. These hardy shrubs grow straight out of sand dunes in the wild, and they tolerate a wide range of soil and moisture conditions as well as both salt and wind. The mature plants can range in stature from prostrate individuals that creep along the ground, to small trees up to 15 feet tall. Specimens of any shape or size can produce a surprisingly heavy crop of fruit when mature.

These seedlings are offspring of parents that produced yellow or gold fruit. Because they are grown from seed, every plant offered here is a genetically unique individual. This means they could produce yellow fruit, purple fruit, or an in-between color (orange or red). These seedlings are field-grown and have never been in pots.

*At least 2 beach plum shrubs are needed to ensure pollination and fruit set.*
