Gray dogwood (Cornus racemosa) is a multi-stemmed, thicket-forming shrub with attractive red stems, white flowers and berries, and leaves that turn red to purple in Fall. It is often found along streams and grows well in rocky, sandy, or poor soil, tolerating both acidic and slightly alkaline soil pH. The fruits are eaten by birds and small mammals. The thickets are also used as nesting habitat.
