Beach Plum (Prunus maritima) grows native along the coastal Northeast from New Brunswick to Virginia. These hardy shrubs grow straight out of sand dunes in the wild, and they tolerate a wide range of soil and moisture conditions as well as both salt and wind. The mature plants can range in stature from prostrate individuals that creep along the ground, to small trees up to 15 feet tall. Specimens of any shape or size can produce a surprisingly heavy crop of fruit when mature.

The wild beach plums of Sandy Hook, NJ often look short, sparse, and shrubby because they face significant deer pressure. In more protected areas, however, they can be found growing large, verdant, and laden with grape-sized plums. This may be the toughest and most resilient population of beach plums offered on this website. All these seedlings are grown from seed, meaning every plant is a genetically unique individual. These seedlings are field-grown and have never been in pots.

*At least 2 beach plum shrubs are needed to ensure pollination and fruit set.*
